8A - Solving the Problem

The opportunity that I have found in assignment 8 was that there are not enough viable parking spaces to students that are attending UF and would like to use their cars to make travel more efficient.

The main solution that I could think about regarding this issue was building three or four parking lots that are specifically accessible to only UF students. They would be located in different parts of the campus so that students who live in different dormitories have a relatively close space that they could rely on. There could be a method in which to access the parking space, a student would have to use their UF identification to be checked and allowed access into these car parks. This service would be accessible to all UF students

One issue that could face this potential solution is that their could still be an overflow of parking as most people would probably want to utilize this service. To counter this, there could maybe be an up charge or a payment-per-semester type plan in which students can access specific places if they have the specific plan. This could solve the problem of over-cluttered lots and students would be able to reliably utilize their cars without having the headache of trying to find one in the first place.

  1. I think this is a great solution. The only issue that initially crosses my mind is the location of the parking lot. Where is there available space on campus that is close enough to put the necessary parking? UF is massive but extending the parking out by the Southwest Rec. doesn't help get to class. Location will be the biggest focus at the beginning. A UF student only parking would be a great idea and be extremely valuable if done correctly. The other issue that may come up is the time restraint. Can students leave their cars there overnight? If too many students leave their cars there for too long, then the parking issue arises again. There is a lot to think about but the opportunity is there and so is the solution. Great post!

  2. To start off with, this is great opportunity analysis. This is a problem that continues to worsen so a solution to it would have insane profit potential. The UF parking lots continued to become as dilapidated as the campus and with no new lots on the horizon this problem continues to become worse. Your solution looks great with how inclusive payment plans could be as a service rather than the current "get lucky and get a spot" that UF has.

  3. I think funding/space is the biggest issue with this solution. I think you did a great job identifying the opportunity and coming up with a solution, however, I feel as if this problem will be around for awhile. I think the payment plan is a great idea. Any university would be willing to cooperate if it means they can get more money, lol. Great work!
